Rebeca Bernal is a distinguished Mexican footballer known for her leadership, defensive prowess, and scoring ability. She currently plays as a center-back for the Washington Spirit in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) and serves as the captain of Mexico’s women's national team. Bernal's professional career began with C.F. Monterrey in 2017 during the inaugural season of Liga MX Femenil. Over her eight seasons in the league, she made 274 appearances and scored 66 goals, and led the team to four league titles. Before the 2025 season Bernal was transferred to the Spirit.

Bernal quickly established herself as a cornerstone of the Spirit's defense. In the season opener against the Houston Dash, she played a pivotal role in a 2–1 victory, demonstrating her ability to disrupt opposition attacks and initiate forward plays. Her adaptability was further highlighted when she seamlessly transitioned to a defensive midfield role following a teammate’s injury, maintaining her influence on the game's tempo. Throughout the early part of the season, Bernal has been a consistent presence. Her performances have not only solidified the team's defense but have also endeared her to the fanbase, particularly among Latino supporters. Her post-match interactions, including signing autographs and taking photos, have further cemented her status as a fan favorite.
