Kansas City women's professional team playing in the NWSL

The Kansas City Current joined the NWSL in 2020 under the ownership of Chris Long, Angie Long, and Brittany Mahomes. Since then, the team has grown significantly, setting a new standard for women's sports across the world.

History of KC Current

December 6, 2020

  • The NWSL awarded an expansion franchise to Kansas City under the leadership of Chris Long, Angie Long, & Brittany Mahomes.

July 2022

  • The ownership team announced their plan to build a stadium on the Kansas City riverfront

2022

The Current had a successful regular season with a 13-game win streak and a near perfect performance in the NWSL playoffs.

April 9, 2021

  • The Current played their first match in the NWSL Challenge Cup. 

January 2023

  • Patrick Mahomes joined the ownership team.

March 16, 2024

The Current played their first game in the CPCK Stadium.
